On a mild but rainy February Saturday, BBQ is probably not to food that comes to mind when considering what to have for lunch. And certainly not this strange combination of pulled pork, cheddar cheese, tortilla chips and sweet BBQ sauce. But this is what we had for lunch — BBQ Nachos. Or rather, that was the appetizer.
Pappy’s BBQ in the neighboring community of Brazil, Indiana is a diamond in the rough, a literal hole in the wall most people pass by on their trip through the typical small Midwestern town main street on the way to bigger cities. The black sign is difficult to spot unless you’re looking for it but if you do, spot it that is, you’ll be rewarded with generous portions, two amazing BBQ sauces, and yummy side dishes that put the chains to shame.
Though their menu recently underwent an increase in prices, perhaps to cover the cost of their autumn expansion into the neighboring space, the food is still well priced for what you get. The location is comfortably relaxed with huge booths, cowboy styling, plus wonderful stamped aluminum ceilings and crown molding. And it’s always, always filling and scrumptious. Can’t stay long? Don’t worry, they do take out!
In short, if you’re in the area and haven’t tried this place — but instead are still eating at places like Rick’s Smokehouse — you are doing yourself a disservice. Get over there and try it out. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
